DAEWOO Selects Trident's DPTV™MVS Video Processor to Power Its "SUMMUS" Lines of Plasma Display Panel Television
Sunnyvale, California. November 11, 2003:
Trident Technologies, Inc, a subsidiary of Trident Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: TRID), and a world-wide leader in developing cutting-edge digital TV technology for the consumer digital video marketplace, today announced that DAEWOO Electronics Corporation, a leading Korea consumer electronics manufacturer of home appliances, consumer electronics, and telecommunication products, has selected Trident’s DPTVTMMVS video processor to power its new SUMMUS lines of plasma display panel (PDP) TVs. The PDP TV models powered by DPTV™MVS are DP-42SM, DP-42GM, DSP-4280WMW, DSP-4284WMS, PDS-4250, DSP-4220LVS and DSP-5010LXS, respectively.
"We selected DPTV™MVS to power our new PDP product line based on the outstanding de-interlacing and edge-smoothing technologies inside the DPTV™MVS. Specifically, DPTV™MVS’s powerful motion adaptive de-interlacing and scaling engine improved the incoming conventional video to progressive Digital TV video quality without any artifacts seen on a large sized plasma screen." said Mr. Jung, Myung-Bo, General manager of Daewoo Electronics Corp. "Furthermore, DPTV™MVS enhances the object's edge and texture refining the video image clarity and sharpness on our PDP TV. We are very pleased to adopt the DPTV™MVS video processor across our PDP TV line ranging from standard 42" to the premium 50" size models. "
"DAEWOO has demonstrated its commitment to make the best plasma TV by using DPTV™MVS as the video processing foundation in its premium plasma TV line," said Dr. J.H. Chang, president of the Trident Technologies Inc. "The DPTV product line has multiple SKUs from which customers can choose to deliver the best price-performance solution according to their product specifications. All these SKUs are pin-to-pin and SW compatible. We are pleased and honored that DAEWOO has selected one of our DPTV products which has implemented industry leading de-interlacing technology to demonstrate the superb video quality of their premium plasma TV."
Trident’s DPTV™MVS video processor is a highly integrated solution that includes pixel based motion adaptive de-interlacer, digital image enchantment, frame rate converter, and image scaler. The motion adaptive de-interlacing and edge-smoothing feature of DPTV™MVS refines the video display quality. DPTV™MVS enables a SDTV signal to display in Picture-in-Picture mode, Picture-Out-Picture mode, and 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio modes. DPTV™MVS supports non-linear scaling in the panorama mode to ensure the most natural picture aspect ratio for viewers. DPTV™MVS supports RGB output up to 1240×768x60 resolution. With film-mode recovery, DPTV™MVS correctly detects the frame rates of incoming video sources and then dynamically restores the video source to the original film mode sequences in play back. Furthermore, DPTV™MVS’s graphic-based On-Screen Display provides the most user-friendly and graphic-oriented TV menu control interface. The video stream can be refreshed in either the Interlace or the Progressive modes. DPTV™MVS supports standard CCIR 656 and CCIR 601 video interfaces.
