Sunnyvale, California.

October 4, 2004:

Trident Technologies Inc, a subsidiary of Trident Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: TRID News), a world-wide leader in developing cutting-edge digital TV technology for the consumer digital video marketplace, today announced that Quanta Computer Inc, one of Taiwan's leading manufacturers of advanced flat-screen TVs, is using Trident's DPTV™3DPRO video processor and PanelPro™Multimedia (PMM) LCD controller combined solution to power its mainstream 23-inch and 26-inch LCD TVs. Final customers and world-wide channels for these products include Taiwan Sanyo, Best Buy, Dixons, and Haier.

"Quanta's LCD TVs require the utmost in video image quality and PC data display capabilities," said Mr. Ted Lu, Senior Vice President of Quanta Computer. "Trident's DPTV™3DPRO and PanelPro™Multimedia (PMM) combo solution provides outstanding analog TV video quality, uncompromising HDTV picture quality, and clear PC graphics scaling to make our LCD TVs both outstanding entertainment devices and productivity tools."

"We are very excited that Quanta, a leader in Taiwan's PC-IT and emerging LCD TV industry, is using our DPTV™3DPRO and PMM solution to power its HD-ready LCD TVs," said Dr. J.H. Chang, president of the Trident Technologies Inc. "Taiwan's LCD TV industry, with the synergy between local LCD panel suppliers and the rapidly increasing number of flat TV system designers, has tremendous growth potential. Trident is fueling that potential with world-class integrated video processors. We have a major presence in Taiwan and being a leading video chip supplier in Taiwan's LCD TV market is fundamental to our overall corporate growth strategy."

Trident's DPTV™3DPRO integrates an advanced third-generation 3D digital comb video decoder for NTSC, PAL, and SECAM formats. Based on Trident's patented proprietary unified memory architecture, DPTV™3DPRO requires no extra frame buffer for performing 3D comb filtering. It is a feature-rich, high-performance video processor. With film-mode recovery, DPTV™3DPRO correctly detects the frame rates of incoming video sources and then dynamically restores the video source to the original film mode sequences in play back. The motion adaptive de-interlacing and edge-smoothing features of DPTV™3DPro refine the video display quality. DPTV™3DPRO enables a SDTV signal to display in Picture-in-Picture mode, Picture-Out-Picture mode, and 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio modes. DPTV™3DPro supports non-linear scaling in the panorama mode to ensure the most natural picture aspect ratio for viewers. DPTV™3DPRO also has a built-in VBI circuit for closed captioning and V-chip processing for parental control that is fully EIA 608 compliant. To enhance the ease-of-use of advanced televisions the DPTV™3DPRO's graphic-based On-Screen Display enables OEMs to create highly user-friendly, colorful, intuitive TV menu control interfaces. Finally, by supporting both interlaced and progressive scan output the DPTV™ 3DPro lets OEMs develop both CRT and flat-panel or projection TVs from the same basic system design.

The PanelPro™Multimedia (PMM) is an advanced, high-quality LCD controller. The PMM video interface integrates an advanced clamping circuitry, pre-amp functions, three 135 MHz high precision 8-bit and high-speed ADCs, two independent line-locked PLL sync separator circuitries, and a cubic-4 scaling engine. PMM has a dual 24-bit digital RGB port, SYNC inputs, and a separated 8/16-bit digital port for video decoder connection. PMM is capable of accepting analog RGB inputs up to SXGA resolution and HDTV digital inputs up to 1080i. PMM accepts digital video signals (D1 480i, D2 480P, D3 1080i, and D4 720P) via its 8/16-bit YUV CCIR601 or 8-bit CCIR656 video ports. Through PMM's 48-bit digital output, PMM delivers high-quality PC graphics and HDTV images to the respective LCD display devices. The combination of DPTV™'s cinema-perfect video image processing and PMM's cubic-4 pixel scaling offers both outstanding video quality and crisp PC data display on large-screen LCD TVs and multi-function monitors.
