Skyworth's Family of Digital Televisions Powered By Trident's DPTV™ SVP

Trident Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Trident Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: TRID href="http://finance.yahoo.com/q/h?s=trid">News) and a worldwide leader in developing cutting-edge digital TV technology for the consumer digital video marketplace, today announced that the Skyworth Group, China's third-largest TV manufacturer and a major television exporter, is using Trident's DPTV™ SVP video processors in its entire series of multi-scan digital televisions for the China market.
"We selected Trident's DPTV™ SVP chip because it enables us to offer significantly better image quality to our customers while lowering our system cost," said Mr. Li Hong An, General Manager of Skyworth's design center. "The DPTV™ SVP video processor is a highly-integrated, feature-rich video processor that we can use across a wide range of TV designs to meet the Chinese TV market's dynamic requirements."

"China, which is truly a global production base for televisions, is expected to build a total of 65 million sets during 2004. That's up over 7.5 percent from 2003 and CRT televisions account for nearly all of China's production. We are glad to see that Skyworth, one of the leading Chinese TV manufacturers, has chosen our DPTV™ SVP video processor for its digital CRT TVs. Trident is honored to work with Skyworth on its multi-scan, pure flat digital CRT television series," said Dr. J.H. Chang, president of Trident Technologies Inc.

Trident's DPTV™ SVP video processor features the award-winning Digital Cinema Reality engine (DCRe™) which includes an advanced 3-D digital comb color decoder, pixel-perfect motion adaptive de-interlacing, vertical and horizontal sharpness enhancement, object-based intelligent digital noise reduction, dynamic Average Picture Level (APL) feedback to enhance video dynamic range, and the DETI engine to provide vivid colors. The DPTV™ SVP integrates an advanced fourth-generation 3-D/2-D digital comb video decoder for NTSC, PAL, and SECAM formats. Based on Trident's patented proprietary unified memory architecture, DPTV™ SVP's digital comb video decoder does not require an extra frame buffer for performing 3D comb filtering. With film-mode recovery, DPTV™ SVP correctly detects the frame rates of incoming video sources, and then dynamically restores the video source to the original film mode sequences for playback. The film-mode recovery of DPTV™ SVP eliminates the artifacts found in a typical interlaced signal to progressive conversion process. The motion adaptive de-interlacing and edge-smoothing feature of the DPTV™ SVP refines the video display quality. The DPTV™ SVP enables a SDTV signal to display in Picture-in-Picture mode, Picture-Out-Picture mode, and 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio modes. DPTV™ SVP supports non-linear scaling in panorama mode to ensure the most natural picture aspect ratio for the viewers. DPTV™ SVP's integrated 3-D digital comb video decoder has a built-in VBI slicer and decoder for closed caption and V-chip parental control that is EIA 608 compliant. Furthermore, DPTV™ SVP's graphic-based on-screen display enable an exceptionally user-friendly and graphically-oriented TV menu control. Both interlaced and progressive-scan video output are supported
