Trident and Silicon Image Collaborate to Accelerate HDMI Adoption in Mainstream Digital TVs

Sunnyvale, California.

March 22, 2004:

Trident Technologies Inc, a subsidiary of Trident Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: TRID News ), and a world-wide leader in developing cutting-edge digital TV technology for the consumer digital video marketplace, and Silicon Image, (Nasdaq: SIMG News ), a leader in multi-gigabit semiconductor solutions for the secure transmission and storage of rich digital media, today announced that they are collaborating to accelerate the adoption of the High-Definition Multimedia Interface(TM) (HDMI(TM)) in mainstream digital TV segments. Not only will Trident license HDMI(TM) technology from Silicon Image for future product integration, but also the two companies will collaborate in the development, marketing, and sales of a mainstream, high-quality video front-end device to be used in the advanced TV and digital TV market. This chip will combine the advanced video processing and interconnection technologies from both companies.

“The world's leading consumer electronic manufacturers have rapidly embraced HDMI and are implementing it across multiple system platforms,” stated John LeMoncheck, vice president of Consumer Electronics Products, Silicon Image. “Building on this early momentum, there is a real opportunity to provide application-specific solutions to further accelerate the adoption of HDMI(TM) in mainstream digital TVs. We are excited to work with Trident, an industry leader in the digital TV space, to co-develop a device integrating our proven PanelLink Cinema(TM) HDMI(TM) technology and Trident's proven image processing technology.”

“Silicon Image's HDMI(TM) interface is the industry gold standard that enables secure digital transmission and display of rich digital content in consumer electronic devices in the purest form,” said Dr. Jung-Herng Chang, president of Trident Technologies, Inc. “By joining forces with Silicon Image, the industry pioneer and leader in HDMI(TM), we can put the best of the breeds in video image processing technology and high-speed interconnection technology into a single chip to benefit all consumers. Trident's flagship DPTV(TM) and HiDTV(TM) are the market leaders in the digital video processing and video image enhancement technologies that have revolutionized the digital television industry. The DCRe(TM) image enhancement technology in DPTV(TM) as well as the fully integrated HiDTV(TM) SoC chip offer the most compelling and high quality video solution at the lowest price. DPTV(TM) has powered millions of digitally enhanced television sets worldwide. We are very pleased to form a key collaboration with Silicon Image in this significant endeavor, which I believe will further extend our technology lead over competitors in the fast-paced and high-growth digital TV market.”
