Trident Announces The SVP EX Family, The World's First Fully-Integrated Ten-Bit HDTV Video Processors
A Complete Product Family with DCRe(TM) Technology Raises the Bar for Mixed-Signal Integration to Deliver Cinema-Realistic Motion and Still Images for High-Performance LCD, Projection, Flat CRT and Plasma TVs
Sunnyvale, California.
September 28, 2004:
Trident Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Trident Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: TRID – News), a worldwide leader in advanced digital TV technology for the consumer digital video marketplace, today announced its fifth-generation all-in-one SVP EX video processor family. The SVP EX video processors feature the industry's first fully-integrated ten-bit mixed-signal video pipe including a high-performance ADC, 3D color decoder, high-performance de-interlacer, and high-quality scaler. This tremendous level of integration is made possible through sophisticated mixed-signal design technology. Optimized for 1080i HDTV component input and featuring Trident's proprietary Digital Cinema Reality Engine, DCRe(TM), the SVP EX video processor family sets a new standard for image quality, features, and total system development cost in the increasingly competitive advanced TV market.
"We have leap-frogged the industry in integration, quality, ease of use, and system design cost reduction," said Dr. Jung Herng Chang, President of Trident Technologies, Inc. Dr. Chang continued, "SVP EX is the world's first fully-integrated ten-bit dual-channel solution. The ten-bit ADC and fifth-generation ten-bit 3D color-decoder have reached a quality level that has been very well accepted by top-tier OEMs worldwide for both small and large size panel products. And most importantly, the SVP EX family is in volume production today with multiple design wins with top-tier TV OEMs. We have successfully expanded our penetration into the captive market space, which is an important part of our overall growth strategy.
The SVP EX(TM) family features Trident's Digital Cinema Reality Engine or DCRe(TM). DCRe(TM) video processing features deliver optimal video fidelity to offer consumers compelling, cinema-like video images. DCRe includes:
– Triple ten-bit ADC to dramatically reduce visible video signal
conversion artifacts.
— Ten-bit 3D color decoder to eliminate annoying "false color" artifacts
and improve overall contrast.
— Ten-bit dual-channel 1080i motion-adaptive de-interlacer to provide
cinema-like motion video quality from any type of video source
material.
— Ten-bit dual-channel scaler to insure crisp images regardless of the
display resolution.
— Ten-bit dual-channel color processor with blue-stretch, green-stretch,
skin-color correction, and white-balance control to offer vivid, bright
colors previously available only in the most sophisticated
internally-developed designs of consumer electronics OEMs.
— Ten-bit display interface to support today's most advanced flat
displays.
— Advanced content-adaptive 3D noise reduction to dramatically reduce the
popping and crackling that is especially prevalent on today's LCD TVs.
— Enhanced horizontal and vertical sharpness controls that set a new
level in sharpness for advanced TVs.
— Programmable LCD overdrive to eliminate the blurring of fast-moving
objects that is common to many LCD displays.
— Integrated VBI slicer and V-chip/closed-caption/teletext accelerator to
support world-wide TV data and messaging needs.
— Full-screen 16-bit bit-mapped OSD powered by a 2D-graphics accelerator
to enable beautiful, intuitive, windows-based user interfaces that
enhance the functionality of advanced TVs.
In addition to providing unparalleled image quality the SVP EX dramatically reduces the cost and complexity of advanced TV system design and manufacturing. The integrated Ten-bit ADC eliminates the need for the costly high-performance discrete ADCs used in previous generations of high-end TVs. With all functions integrated on a single chip a TV's main board complexity is simplified to lower cost, enhance high-frequency signal integrity, and improve manufacturability. Only a single unified frame buffer is required to achieve all system and 3D video processing functions, significantly reducing a TV's total bill of materials. Advanced TV OEMs invest substantial engineering development funds in software. The SVP EX family allows a single software code base to be used for LCD, CRT, plasma, and rear-projection TVs so that fewer software development resources are required to support a full lineup of advanced TV models.
Designed to meet the maximum video and data processing requirements for today's premium advanced television applications, the SVP EX family has six products to meet the customers design needs. The family members and target applications are:
