Trident Microsystems Prevails in Patent Infringement Lawsuit Brought by NeoMagic
Sunnyvale, California. August 10, 2004:
Trident Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: TRID – href="http://finance.yahoo.com/q/h?s=trid">News), a leader in semiconductors for Digital Television announced today that a patent infringement lawsuit was decided on August 5, 2004 in favor of Trident, that Trident did not infringe the NeoMagic patent in question after all.
The suit was originally filed by NeoMagic in 1998 against Trident with regard to United States patent 5,703,806 and ultimately decided last Thursday by the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. The Court of appeals unanimously upheld a previous summary judgment ruling on this matter by the United States District Court of Delaware issued on May 9, 2003.
“We were confident that the District Court's ruling would be upheld,” said Mr. Frank Lin CEO of Trident Microsystems. “We feel vindicated that both the District Court and the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals have ruled in our favor.”
Trident's counterclaim against NeoMagic for violation of Section 2 of the Sherman Act, attempted monopolization arising out of NeoMagic's prosecution of the patent infringement action against Trident, remains pending in Delaware federal district court.
Trident was represented by Mr. Ian N. Feinberg and a legal team from Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw from Palo Alto California.
