Trident Video Processors Incorporated in ViewSonic’s Next Generation LCD TV Line
Trident’s DPTV™3DPRO and PanelPro™Multimedia
(PMM) Selected by Display Industry Leader
Sunnyvale, California, January 16, 2003:
The Digital Media Business Unit of Trident Microsystems,
Inc. (NASDAQ: TRID),
a world-wide leader in developing cutting-edge digital video
processing technology for the consumer digital video marketplace,
today announced that ViewSonic has selected Trident’s DPTV™3DPRO
video processor and PanelPro™Multimedia (PMM) LCD controller
solution for one of its next generation LCD TV product lines.
“LCD technology is rapidly extending beyond the traditional
desktop monitor to accommodate the latest in digital content,”
said Gene Ornstead, director of business development, Advanced
Technology Group, ViewSonic. “For this product line, ViewSonic
believes that Trident’s DPTV™3DPRO and PMM solutions
deliver outstanding video and PC data image quality to give
users the ultimate desktop experience, from standard computer
applications to HDTV viewing.”
“Our alliance with ViewSonic will help make the convergence
of digital video and data a reality. ViewSonic constantly
raises the performance bar in a new display category that
extends beyond the traditional applications of a desktop computer
monitor to include enhanced television and entertainment capabilities,
such as High Definition Television (HDTV),” said Dr. J.H.
Chang, president, Digital Media business unit, Trident. “Trident
values its strategic and close partnership with ViewSonic
in its endeavor to develop LCD TV type products using Trident’s
DPTV™3DPRO video processor and PanelPro™Multimedia
solution, a chipset designed specifically for this application.
Both companies share the same vision and have a strong commi™ent
to bring high-quality digital video and multimedia experience
to the PC world.”
Trident’s DPTV™3DPRO integrates an advanced third-generation
3-D digital comb video decoder for NTSC, PAL, and SECAM formats.
Based on Trident’s proprietary patented unified memory architecture
(UMA), DPTV™3DPRO requires no extra frame buffers for
performing 3D comb filtering. With film-mode recovery, DPTV™3DPRO
correctly detects the frame rates of incoming video sources,
and then dynamically restores the video source to the original
film mode sequences in play back. The motion adaptive de-interlacing
and edge-smoothing feature of the DPTV™3DPRO refines
the video display quality. The DPTV™3DPRO enables a
SDTV signal to display in Picture-in-Picture mode, Picture-Out-Picture
mode, and 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio modes. DPTV™3DPRO
supports non-linear scaling in the panorama mode to ensure
a most natural picture aspect ratio for the viewers. DPTV™3DPRO
supports RGB output up to 1240x1024x60 resolution. DPTV™3DPRO
has a built-in VBI circuit for Closed Captioning and V-chip
for parental control that is EIA 608 compliant. Furthermore,
DPTV™3DPRO’s graphic-based On-Screen Display provides
the most user-friendly and graphic-oriented TV menu control
interface. The video stream can be refreshed in either the
Interlace or the Progressive modes.
The PanelPro™Multimedia (PMM) is an advanced highly integrated and high-quality LCD controller chip that is designed with an external CPU for maximum system design flexibility. The PMM video processor integrates an advanced clamping circuitry, pre-amp functions, three 135 MHz high-precision 8-bit and high-speed ADCs, two independent line-locked PLL sync separator circuitries, and a cubic-4 scaling engine. PMM has a dual 24-bit digital RGB port, SYNC inputs, and a separated 8/16-bit digital port for video decoder connection. PMM is capable of accepting analog RGB inputs up to SXGA resolution and HDTV digital inputs up to 1080i. PMM accepts digital video signals (D1 480i, D2 480P, D3 1080i, and D4 720P) via its 8/16-bit YUV CCIR601 or 8-bit CCIR656 video ports. Through PMM’s 48-bit digital output, PMM delivers high-quality PC graphics and HDTV quality to the respective LCD display devices.
